Putha Hiunchuli Expedition: Into the Remote Wilds of Nepal’s Far West.

Putha Himchuli Expedition (7,246m)

Trip Overview

Putha Hiunchuli Expedition (7,246m) – Dhaulagiri VII: Journey to the Hidden Giant of the Western Himalayas

Putha Hiunchuli, also known as Dhaulagiri VII, stands at 7,246 meters and marks the westernmost summit of the Dhaulagiri range. This stunning peak lies in the remote Dolpa region of western Nepal and remains one of the least explored 7,000-meter mountains in the country. First climbed in 1954 by a British expedition, Putha Hiunchuli offers climbers a unique opportunity to experience high-altitude mountaineering in a quiet, untouched corner of the Himalayas.

The expedition begins with a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a bustling city near the Indian border. From there, another short yet scenic flight takes you to Juphal, a small airstrip nestled among the hills of Dolpa. A short drive then leads to Dunai, the district headquarters, where the trekking adventure officially starts. The trail gradually winds through beautiful landscapes, traditional villages, and ancient monasteries, offering a glimpse into the preserved culture and way of life in this isolated region.

Dolpa is renowned for its raw natural beauty and spiritual depth. With its dramatic canyons, wide alpine valleys, pristine rivers, and panoramic views, this region is often referred to as one of Nepal’s last Himalayan frontiers. The trek to base camp is fully supported, and all accommodations are provided through tented camping, adding to the sense of wilderness and adventure.

The base camp of Putha Hiunchuli sits in a vast glacial basin, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. From here, climbers ascend through gentle glaciers and wide snowfields, following a relatively straightforward but physically demanding route. Summit day offers a spectacular view of the Dhaulagiri range, the Tibetan plateau, and the vast, silent beauty of Nepal’s far west.

This expedition is proudly operated by Kora Quest Adventure, a trusted Himalayan outfitter known for delivering safe, professional, and deeply enriching mountain experiences. With their expert support and intimate knowledge of the region, your journey to the summit of Dhaulagiri VII becomes not just a climb—but a transformative adventure into the heart of Nepal’s high and hidden Himalayas.
